Babies produce a considerable amount of dirty laundry, what with the regular feeding and constant peeing and pooping. You have to deal with taking out various kinds of stains and worry about whether your laundry products are mild enough for your baby’s sensitive skin.

When it comes to laundering your baby’s clothes, your best defense is to act fast. First, presoak stained clothes in cool water. Usually water is enough to spots if you get them while they are fresh. Stains that had time to settle will also loosen a bit while they soak in water. You can also try using a soft-bristled nylon brush and a small amount of soap to gently work out a spot. After trying to remove stains and some spots still remain, resort to something stronger. Remember though that your baby’s skin is sensitive. Make sure you rinse the clothes thoroughly. Skip treatments altogether on clothes that will rub against your baby’s skin like cloth diapers or undershirts. Below is a list of the most common baby stains how to take them out the natural way as suggested by Janet Brady, a textile and stain expert at the Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science.

Proteins

Proteins include breast milk, formula, baby food stains and spit-up. To get rid of the, soak soiled clothes in plain water first, then add an enzyme cleaner such as Wisk or Era Plus. The enzyme will attack the stain and literally digest the protein. If traces of the stain remain, apply a combination solvent (an all-purpose stain remover) then launder as usual.

Greasy Stains

Oily, greasy stains come from baby oil, petroleum jelly and creams. If still fresh, remove any excess and cover the stained spot with cornstarch or talcum powder to absorb oil. Scrape it off after 10 to 15 minutes. Apply a combination solvent like Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash, and then launder as usual.

Fruits and Vegetable Stains

Fruits and vegetable stains include juices, jams and berries. To get rid of them, wash out clothes with cool water and then soak in a one-to-one mixture of rubbing alcohol, and water. If the stains come off, wash the clothes as usual. If not, apply a combination solvent such as Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash and then wash. For persistent stains, lightly bleach spots by soaking them in one-to-one mixture of white vinegar and water.

Poop and Pee Stains

For poop stains, get rid of them the same way you would protein stains. Soak first in cool water, apply an enzyme cleaner like Wisk or Era Plus and then launder as usual. For pee stains, pre-treat the stained area with a table spoon of ammonia that’s been diluted in at least a cup of water. Make sure to test a hidden spot first to see if the fabric is colorfast. Follow the pretreatment with a combination solvent like Shout or Spray ‘n’ Wash then wash as usual. Remember; never mix a product containing chlorine bleach with either ammonia or vinegar as these combinations are toxic.

The onesie is undeniably a fantastic innovation. It was invented by Walter Artzt in the 1950s. He was quite a prolific inventor and has been described as a Renaissance man with quite a sense of humor. His design for the onesie added a trapezoid shaped piece to the bottom of the front and back of a t-shirt. Snaps were added to the bottom edge of the trapezoid and the front and back then snapped together between the legs. This design kept the t-shirt firmly in place.

While investigating the origin of the onesie, I learned about other inventions by Mr. Artzt that are responsible for a lot of the baby clothing styles we have today.

In 1963 be invented a method of manufacturing hooded garments. Some of the cutest baby apparel today are the ones with hoods.

In 1967 he invented an “infant’s garment of the wrap-around type”. This wrap around type must be something different than the undershirts that were popular in the early 1960s. The front sections of those undershirts overlapped each other and were secured with ties. Mr. Artzt’s design is an outer garment and has no ties.

Mr. Artzt also invented, what is today called, the sleeper. The one piece apparel with feet was patented in 1960. This garment is not only for sleeping. The sleeper is basically a onesie with legs and feet added. Babies wear sleepers all of the time because two piece outfits often leave their tummies exposed because the top rides up as they move about. Also, the sleeper is comfortable, with very few seams and no elastic around the tummy. Having the feet as part of the sleeper is also handy because socks and booties are always slipping off. There are three types of sleepers. One where the leg seams are sewn, leaving no openings, one where the leg seams are not sewn, but fastened together with snaps, and one that has one leg seam sewn and the other closed by a zipper that runs all the way from the foot to the neck edge. The reason for the opening of the leg seams is to make it easier when it comes time for a diaper change.

Along with the implementation of Mr. Artzt’s inventions and the new easy care cotton fabrics that need no ironing, dressing today’s babies is quick and easy.

Julie Paasch is a grandmother to three young boys, her love of babies and everything about them has inspired her to start her own online store selling only the highest quality baby apparel and gifts from Baby Aspen and Baby Shower Favors by Kate Aspen. Please visit Mama Llama’s Baby Gifts and thanks for reading my article!
Article Source

So there’s a special new baby in your life, and you’d like to give a unique gift. You don’t want to head down to the department store and buy something on sale, something that they may already have or not need. You don’t want to buy them something like diapers, or a basic sleeper or two.

You’d rather not go in on a group gift to get them something big like a crib or stroller. You want something they don’t have, something that will make their jaw drop when they open up your unique newborn baby gift. And so you need a newborn baby gift idea that is unique.

Gifts That are Personalized

While personalization as an method of making gifts more special has come back in vogue, giving a personalized item for a newborn baby gift is unique. The item – often a bib, blanket, bath towel, or photo frame – can be personalized by the store, adding the newborn baby’s name, date of birth, height and weight, and whatever else you’d like them to add. These items are appreciated by the family and treasured for a lifetime. Years later, the child can still cuddle with the baby blanket that has her name written in script all around the edges, or look at baby pictures in a frame that has her name on it.

Gifts That Capture an Infancy

As we all know, babies grow up way too fast! Thankfully, there are gifts you can give that can help the parents capture their child’s infancy and keep it a bit longer. Consider the unique newborn baby gift of a kit to keep baby’s handprint and footprint.

Giving Baby Jewelry

Another unique newborn baby gift is jewelry. Babies can wear earrings, bracelets, or rings. Once the baby is a bit older, a necklace will also be alright. Each of these make an eye-popping gift and would be kept and valued for a lifetime.

Wrap It Up and Send It There

Through many specialty stores and a wide range of stores over the Internet, unique newborn baby gifts can be bought in gift baskets. Some items included are basic things that every parent will use, like bibs, undershirts, sleepers, and diapers. But they usually also include a unique component, like special toys or a “lovey” for the baby to cuddle with. A nice benefit is also the basket that can be used for many things for years to come.

When a baby is born, traditionally we give the baby and his or her parents gifts to celebrate the birth. This can be done at a baby shower, which is often held at a restaurant or in the home of one of the mother’s friends, or the gift can be given as a special surprise for the mother without any party.

Often the baby shower has a theme for the presents, usually planned in coordination with the mother and her needs. Sometimes, the giver can be part of a “group gift” for the baby newborn boy or girl, and go in with other people at the church or workplace to buy the family a more expensive present, one that is more expensive than anyone wants to buy alone.

Practical Gifts

One type of gift are the practical gifts. This would include things like diapers (whether disposable or the “new” trend – cloth) and diaper covers, practical clothing like undershirts, sleepers, and other necessary items, receiving blankets and larger ones, and anything else the mother has expressed an interest in receiving, like a sling or diaper bag.

Newborn Baby Gifts That Pamper

Pampering gifts are the type that the mother and father probably wouldn’t buy on their own, but they would love to have. These include things like diaper service for a month or two, and very fancy clothing for the newborn.

Something that is very popular now is to give newborn baby gifts that are personalized. Almost any present can be turned into a personalized gift – there are many websites and companies that will add a name to a blanket, bib, towel, etc. Imagine the thrill for a mother as she opens your gift to find her baby’s name on the satin binding of a blanket!

Suggested Gifts For Mom!

Mom could use a bit of pampering after her hard work. A gift for mom could be a massage or getting her nails done. Mom may appreciate a book she’s had her eye on, which she can read while she’s breastfeeding the baby. Or it could be a scrapbook made from pregnancy photos documenting her journey into motherhood. Note that the best newborn baby gifts for mom aren’t ones that take her away from her newborn, but ones she can enjoy while the babe is asleep or contented in a auntie’s arms.

What About Gifts For Dad?

What would dad like when he’s got a newborn? Many dads enjoy getting regular meals – and when mom’s busy with her newborn baby, a gift can be bringing in meals to the family.
