An infant monitor, also called an infant alarm, is actually a radio system that sends sounds produced by a baby who’s distant from the parent or babysitter. It’s particularly helpful with infants who sleep inside a separate room away from the parents. This means that they require more attention during the evening for feeding, nappy altering, or comforting. An infant monitor can also be ideal for baby naps throughout your day – it enables mobility for a parent to complete things around the house and can is notified once the child awakens.

These uses of a baby monitor are common to almost all brands and types in the market but there is one that really caught my attention. The Angelcare AC420 Sound Monitor which I bought when my baby was about two months old.

So why do I really like this Angelcare monitor? Well for just one its great sound quality and sensitivity. I’m able to even hear the breathing of my baby and I have found no static sounds. I’ll account this towards the sensitivity control on the rear of the base station which has 8 channels to select from to reduce interference in addition to volume control. The parent unit may be easily carried throughout the house, giving me freedom to complete my usual programs and tasks during the day.

]]>

I make sure though that I am within the range limit specified in the user manual, between 80 meters and 100 meters indoors and up to 250 meters outdoors. This baby monitor also shows the nursery room temperature on the parents unit, but I don’t rely much on it, most of the time it registers a different room temperature from the actual.

Another plus factor for this Angelcare monitor is the power source. The nursery unit operates on 4 AAA batteries or on AC adapter; the parents unit operates on rechargeable NiCad batteries which comes with the package. It automatically converts to battery in case of power interruption.

As all parents would know, the main reason I got a baby monitor was to prevent an unnecessary occurrence of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome). Baby monitors are not 100% guaranteed to help prevent the syndrome at any given time but it decreases the chances so I am at least happy with some form of prevention than none at all. So far, I have not lost any of my children through SIDS and I know that I never will. I’m sure glad I bought this baby monitor.

Summer Infant day and night handheld color video monitor consists of a camera that also acts as the transmitter and a handheld unit that acts as a receiver. The handheld unit is small, lightweight and easy to carry. Being portable, this helps you see as well as hear your baby while you are roaming inside your house.

It operates at 900Mz. So, unless you are using an electronic device that operates at exactly the same frequency, the reception is great. Also, with the two-channel selection, the interference is reduced even more.

Night vision is another feature that makes using this baby monitor a great experience. This feature helps you see and hear your baby in the night also without any problem.

This product has a great sound quality. There is also ‘the video ON/OFF feature that lets you switch off the video at night and listen to only the baby’s sounds. Anyway, since the receiver is a handheld, it doesn’t emit much light at night and disturb your sleep.

Summer Infant day and night handheld color video monitor has a range of 350 feet. It is available in two colors-White and Pink

People who have used this product have complained of two drawbacks. One is that, at night, the video monitor may produce some static at times. Other drawback is that, there are only two channels. So, if someone within the range of 350 feet is using this same monitor at the same channel, then there are chances that they may be able to see your baby from their monitor.

All said, This Baby Monitor of Summer Infant is overall a very good product to use. If you are looking for a video monitor that is reliable, durable and worth the money, then Summer infant day and night handheld color video monitor is a very good candidate.

Modern houses nowadays usually include separate living and sleeping areas whereby a lot of couples use a separate nursery for their baby. This is because it is almost impossible for a mother of a newborn to be with them at all hours? Most mothers notice this after the third day of staying with the baby in the same room and the same bed. This is where the baby monitor comes in.

Wireless baby monitors is a tremendous step-up from the old wired style of baby monitors. This has not only helped in efficiency but it has also proved much safer for the child where in some cases the kid would entangle themselves to the point of death with all sorts of cords hanging from the monitor.

Baby monitors before were only able to deliver sound to the receiver unit. Today, you will find video monitors with a whole load of safety features. This really is good because baby monitors keep baby safe and in extraordinary instances, even save them from SIDS.

I chose the wireless baby monitor because I did not want my toddler to get tangled in the cords. We all know that we creatively hide the cord, but sometimes, when the outlet is way down, or is hidden by a dresser, then the cords are exposed. This is big danger. The wireless baby monitor also made it convenient for me. I had great reception, the sounds were distinct and clear, and I did not have interference because I had a digital baby monitor.

Here are a few advantages that I’m now taking pleasure in with my wireless baby monitor:

Advantages:

• It can certainly give you a peace of mind wherever you may be in the house.

• It can promise the safety of your baby with its real-time two-way communication.

• You can easily do other things such as cooking, washing, or cleaning while your baby sleeps.

• You don’t have to be worried about your child getting all twisted with the cables of the monitor

• Since you are using wireless, you’ll be able to practically go anywhere you need in your home without any cables restricting your mobility.

• It is extremely easy to set up.

Disadvantages:

• If you don’t have avent technology Static problems and other interference occur especially when you have a lot of electronic devices lying around the area such as mobile phones, computers, and the like.

• It really is more costly than your regular baby monitors.

• You may have trouble with the range that your wireless monitor can cover.

Above are the things that you need to know when you are considering on buying your own wireless baby monitor. With the range issue, I found one that went farther than most, and with it being digital, interference with other devices is becoming less of an issue. If you’re looking to buy one today, try a wireless monitor, first. You’ll never regret it.

I am hoping that this short article greatly enables you to decide what the very best monitor is for you and your baby. All the best!

My Personal Review OnLorex LIVE snap Video Baby Monitor Add-On Camera

No perfect baby Monitor We’ve had this monitor for about 48 hours and now wanted to give our first impressions quickly.

First, you had a summer infant video monitor with our first child two years ago. We were not happy with it. The sound was not great and the video at the end she left after a year of use. With our second child we decided to have another baby video monitor and sought support more than one camera. Say it is not a baby monitor video quality out there that I found. I’ll start with the pros.

Pros: – Video quality is as good as their peers. Do not go, but serves its purpose. For the night has a pretty good range and is more than enough. – Little interference. We have cell phones, Wi-Fi, cordless phones, baby monitor audio and many other wireless devices and have not had any interference. – Time interval. Pretty good. We had the camera in front of the house and were able to get a signal in the back. It was probably 35 feet away and was 4-5 at the half walls. – Usability. The buttons are well established and intuitive. We like the form factor – something like a cell phone from the old school candy bar style. – Two-way communication. It works when you can get the ‘up’ for work (see cons).

Cons: – Build quality is mediocre. The plastic is a bit cheaper. The buttons are not responding. The menu button and up / talk “take several attempts to activate. It is as if the plastic buttons are not aligned properly. It may take 4-5 attempts to activate the menu sometimes. Very annoying. When you browse the menu button works fine but the top button works erratically. I often end up scrolling through the list using the button below. The other buttons, 1-4, left / right, power does not seem to have a problem and it can only be this particular unit. It makes me wonder if we’ll have a full year of use out of the screen before it goes belly up, however. – VOX does not work. The monitor has a setting called VOX only turn on the monitor after it detects a noise. It does not work in ours. We have energy saving as the instructions indicate. We put in an empty room (ie, quiet) and became the VOX of their lower sensitivity (highest to noise required to activate) and only cycles off almost immediately. Only cycles on / off continuously. When set to the higher sensitivity we see no difference. VOX turned off and we just use the energy saving function (the video turns off after a predetermined time period.) – Audio. All right. Without VOX is a constant buzz light because the audio is always on. There can be super strong either (not a big deal for us). No interference in the audio is a plus, however. He is placed in the back of the unit. When you do not have the receiver in the cradle, the speaker can be turned off when placed. Will not stand in the end, so the monitor is set down on the loudspeaker or on the LCD. – Cot. The cradle is a bit annoying. The base has a male end of a mini-USB that connects to the unit of payment. The drive slot to slide in the support is not very tight so it takes a little finesse to get the mini-usb to align the unit. No big deal, but is not as easy as we would like when checking the monitor late at night.

The monitor is fine. Not good. I wish there was a video monitor that is high quality. I would definitely pay for a pass instead of a new one every year.

The launcher will send out clear FM signal through the antenna. Then the receiver kept by parents will receive the signals.

The Safety 1st High-Def Color Digital Video Baby Monitor is technology at it’s finest, always providing a 100% clear connection. Its state of the art wideband audio clarity ensures no interference or static, and guaranteed privacy while monitoring. DataLock technology means no loss of video picture or sound. Indoor/outdoor range is 650+ feet. It has a remote digital pan and zoom on the camera which parents love. The baby unit is battery operated or can run on AC power.

Video Picture Quality:

The Safety 1st High-Def Digital Baby Monitor has a high quality clear picture, color day vision and black and white night vision(infrared). That being said, it is NOT “high-def” by the standards of a high-definition TV, but it is high-definition compared to the picture of other monitors currently available. Keep in mind this is a baby monitor, not a video camera, it works fantastically for its intended purpose.

Audio and Reception:

The sound quality and reception are very good, excellent in fact. Generally there is no static or interference, however occasionally there is a soft “whoosh” (white noise) of interference that can be in the background when the receiver is on. The microphone is very sensitive and can pick up your child’s smallest sounds, like breathing noises, which is very reasurring to hear or turn the volume down so that you hear crying but not breathing or little murmers.

The reception is excellent, it also has a huge range of 650 feet, you should be able to move anywhere in your house with no loss of quality.

It seems to vary quite alot whether the Safety 1st High-Def Color Digital Baby Monitor will interfere with your wireless network or not. The majority of people don’t experience conflict with their wireless internet at all, however some people have experienced sporadic interference that has shut down their wireless internet service for a few minutes.

Pan/Tilt Feature:

From the handheld parent unit, you can zoom in on the picture 2X to 4X. While in a zoomed view, you can move right, left, up or down within the picture. The zoom feature does actually produce fairly clear images.

Time Out Feature:

The Safety 1st High Def Digital Video Baby Monitor has an on-screen menu that allows you to set your preferences for the Time Out feature, AUTO level, Night vision (infrared) and adding other cameras. ‘Time Out’ allows you to set how long you want the screen to be on before it automatically shuts off to save battery life – 5 seconds, 15 secs, 25 secs, or OFF which leaves it on until you turn it off. The sound continues after the screen turns off unless you have set the AUTO LEVEL, which turns the sound off and then turns it on if there is noise in the room. For night vision you can turn the infrared on, off, or to auto.

Safety 1st Logo:

There is a Safety 1st Logo screen that comes on every time you turn the screen on, but it’s only there for 3 seconds then will automatically turn off or push the left button to manually turn it off.

Volume Control:

To change the volume you have to turn on the screen first which will beep, wait for the safety 1st logo to dissappear, then adjust the volume. Anytime you push any button on the handheld monitor it will beep softly, the beep feature cannot be turned down in volume or totally off.

Overall, regardless of a few minor features that some parents don’t like, the Safety 1st High Def Digital Video Baby Monitor is still highly recommended by parents who use this digital video monitor. When it comes to technical specifications this monitor has all the important quality features parents need and is certainly amongst the top few digital baby video monitors available today.

The Most Evolved Baby Safety Monitors

A mother cannot afford to cook in the kitchen and be with her baby in the nursery at the same time. Nor can a father or mother entertain the guests or manage their home job and be with the baby simultaneously. All of them rely on a baby safety monitor to track their baby’s sounds and activities to make sure that the baby is safe.

Earlier models of these monitors were simple machines that contained a transmitting and receiving mechanism. But manufacturers of baby monitors are nowadays incorporating the full spectrum benefits of advancing technology into the making of these gadgets. The result is that the latest ones that use digital technology are several steps ahead in their functionality than the analog monitors that have been prevalent before it.

The Pros of Digital Baby Safety Monitors

Digital monitors, first of all, provide far better sound and video quality than analog monitors. The precise transmission of sounds using digital technology enables the listener to make out even the slight variation in the child’s breathing patterns. And they can view the child’s movements and facial expressions also better because of the sharper video quality of digital monitors.

The range availability and interference features are also better in digital monitors than in analog monitors. If a baby is to be viewed only from a couple of rooms away, any type of monitor would suffice. But those who have a larger house and want to view the baby from the yard, or deck, or garage, should ideally rely on digital baby safety monitor since it provides a much higher range. With analog monitors, the sounds that your baby makes can be picked up by neighbors also who rely on the same frequency for their baby monitors, and you may also get to listen to the sounds their baby makes. This can sometimes be inconvenient, or confusing. Digital monitors have better no-interference technology and security features that help to maintain the users’ privacy.

And the Cons

While the benefits of digital baby monitors are fully acknowledged, it has its negative sides as well.  The health risks involved in the technology has not been fully ruled out. The electromagnetic waves that are part of the digital technology is said to expose the child to radiation. While these are bad even for adults, the tender body and organs of babies are believed to be more susceptible to the radiation from electromagnetic waves. A partial solution out of this is keeping the monitor as far away from the child as possible.

Another downside of digital monitors is its high cost. The question whether this is a downside or not will depend on the long term cost effectiveness of the product and the financial capacity of the buyer.

Conclusion

Digital baby safety monitors invariably have more to offer than analog baby monitors. However, a user’s requirements have also to be considered in evaluating a product. For smaller range requirements, analog monitors will also give a satisfactory service.

Video Baby Monitors are Light Years Ahead

Parents today must stay involved, limit access and set consequences to assure their child is safe.    From the first day you bring your little one home from the hospital you are amazed at his movements, the tiniest of sounds and are mesmerized by his perfection. Many mothers can confirm at the first few days of life, the hand and feet movements that she felt while her baby was still inside the womb. Video baby monitors gives us the knowledge of two of our senses sight and sound verses the standard sound monitor which gives us only one.

The largest ongoing downfall of all baby monitors has always been the interference of neighboring radios, TV’s, microwaves and all electronically devices used in an average household today. Today the digital video baby monitors are all top rated. Short of DECT
(digitally enhanced cordless telecommunications), there’s no guarantee against interference with either digital or analog monitors, although digital monitors are less susceptible and more private.

Quite a few monitors can offer from two to sixty different frequency channels. Many video baby monitors offer a auto-select feature which automatically finds a free and secure channel, which is very handy. Extra camera units are handy if you wish to keep one near the babies bed and carry the other around with you.

The infant video monitor has small color screens with reasonably good pictures. The MobiCam and Safety 1’st models are very sensitive and have the ability to pick up low levels of sound. The video baby monitors all rank from excellent to good for the basic job of listening to or looking at your baby.

Many parents today say not only does the infant video monitor give them peace of mind but they enjoy capturing movements that they would not have seen otherwise. New video baby monitors are coming out every month and each one is better, more efficient and  expanding from the older versions. Soon they will be a must in every home.
