Although the infection is usually taken care by the body itself, doctors prescribe anti-biotic for the baby. For Repetitive and persistent infection doctors also perform surgical implant of “Ear Tubes” in children which creates alternate air passage, thereby culling germ growth in the inner ear.

Ear infections are too common yet should be a matter of concern for the parents. Consistent ear infections are not a good sign for the health of the baby and can become a health issue in later life. Precautions like proper vaccination, sanitation and practices like regular hand wash both for parent and baby should be practiced. Thus, although it may seem too casual, ear infection can lead to various problems like permanent damage to ear structures or hearing loss which can hamper the learning process. For a healthy baby do not overlook any tell tale signs of trouble in the ears and consult a doctor.

The first thing to do when the baby is suffering from diarrhea or vomiting is to start giving them fluids. This should be by giving them home made or ready made re-hydrating solutions in small quantities, sip by sip so that body is able to absorb the nutrients and
the loss of water is made up for. Feeding of babies should continue and it is a good idea to consult a doctor if the symptoms carry on and there is no relief for the baby. Medication for small babies is never a good idea and therefore natural procedures like feeding, re-hydration, liquid diets etc are good solutions.

However, if conditions do not improve or there is other complications like blood in the stool etc medical help should be immediately made available to the baby.

Before babies can verbally tell you if they are hurt, they can communicate this by signing. To sign hurt, touch your two pointer fingers together. If you can teach this sign to your child, they will be able to sign if they are hurt or not. Even more importantly, they will be able to tell you where they are hurt. For example, if they sign “hurt” near their ear, it may mean they have an ear infection.

To make it easier for your baby to learn this sign, you can practice on stuffed animals or toys. For example, you can make believe a teddy bear bumped his head and then explain that he hurt his head, while signing the word as well. Your child will begin to understand, and they will use the sign when they are hurt themselves. Continue to use the sign whenever you refer to someone or something that is hurt, whether it is something on a television show, in a book, etc. Soon, you will see how quickly your child learns the sign, and how much easier it will be to help them when they are hurt.
