There was a Dodge commercial a few years back that emphasized originality; more so, it highlighted the importance of being “different” and standing apart from the crowd. Children and young adults often find themselves in a place where they feel like they must be like the rest of the crowd to fit in… sometimes caving into peer pressure even when it’s the wrong path. When you notice that your child is trying to find her identity among her peers, it is generally a good idea to begin guiding her in a steady and healthy way.

Help her to feel good about herself by nurturing her talents so that she can strive and thrive in school, at home and at work in the future. Explain to her that there is no “snowflake-cutout” image perfect for her, but rather that she should design her life the way she sees fit and not what others may dictate to her. When she understands that you are going to be the rock on which she can lean, she will feel emboldened to be courageous, strong and determined in her abilities and to help her be unique.

What many young children and teens do not realize is that eventually, they will be adults in the real world. To them, everything is complex… from school, to friends, to teachers, homework, socializing, parents, extended family, siblings, dreams, goals, studies, dating… there is no end in sight sometimes. In matters that often create massive emotional strains, teenagers are quickly overwhelmed. While they may be smiling on the outside, their hearts may be breaking internally. This is where a mother’s (or father’s) intuition can really begin to pay off. When we can look beyond the mask that our growing child has placed upon her face, we can easily head off negativity at the pass. Get a feel for her daily routine – her likes, her dislikes, her friends, her schoolwork, her habits, her behavior, her teachers and her extracurricular activities. By knowing our children, we can begin to understand what it is they need from us to move beyond their inhibitions.

]]>

Practice listening so that you can hear what she is saying to you. When I say that, I mean that you have to develop an ear for discovering her innermost feelings. It is by no means an easy task. Even watching their body language is vital for you to understand and know your child better. As parents, we desperately try to do everything and anything within our means to create a loving and solid environment, but even in our best attempts to do so, we may not always see through the veil. We may even unintentionally smother them if we try too hard. So how does one help her child to be “different” in a constructive way? Unconditional love.

Let your child always know that no matter what the circumstance, no matter the challenge, no matter what the case may be, that you will always be there for her. Explain to her that mutual respect and honesty is what you want in your parent-child relationship. Let her know that your door and your heart are always open to her. When she trusts that she can communicate with you, you will be able to help mold your child into the creative and matchless individual that she already is and who she will one day become in a sometimes volatile world.

When she learns that she is different but in a special and loving way, she will feel comfortable about herself, her surroundings and her dreams. Be the mighty oak tree that will shelter her from life’s storms, but do not overshadow her…be strong, but not so rigid that you cannot sway with the currents of the wind. She will love and respect you for it… and in the end, she may just be like Dodge: different…and in a positive and productive way.

Exercise: for you and your newborn baby

To begin regular exercise with your newborn, you’ll want to capture his interest first. You can start by simply putting your newborn baby on a blanket to watch you exercise. Let your baby see you doing exercises at home or strolling in the park. When your child see you, parents, exercising and be active they will grow up believing that exercise is a healthy habit and is natural, which is the way to an healthier lifestyle. Keep reading for suggestions and tips on integrating physical activities into your baby’s routine.

Why is it some children seem to develop at a faster rate than their peers? Because parents that take care of the physical and intellectual growth of their baby and child, have more active children later on in life. But keep in mind that the first step toward promoting physical activity in your child is to be active yourself! A child’s attitude toward exercise is definitely shaped by the attitude of the parents. Active children generally have active parents who encourage their children to exercise.

By the time babies reach the age of one month (or they recover their full birth weight), they need and enjoy movement and fresh air. At this stage of life, babies need their parents’ encouragement to move. As the baby gets older, movement and exercise help him maintain balance, develop strength, and use new muscles. Starting exercise at any early age helps to establish a habit of activity that carries over into adulthood.
.

You can start exercising your child when he is about one month old or has regained his birth weight. You can have an exercise session at any time but bath time or the evening is probably the best. The session can be long or short depending on your child’s response. Keep the length of the session consistent, and try to do it at the same time every day. The idea is to fit exercise into the daily routine of you and baby.

If you perform the exercises in the same place every day, the child becomes familiar with the feel of the floor, the bed or the surroundings. Consequently, when placed in that situation, baby will react by kicking, cooing, twisting, and smiling.

Try not to put your child in a playpen or crib unless it is nap time. When he is awake, give him every possible opportunity to crawl around on the floor and explore. If the child must be in a crib or playpen, supply objects as blocks, toys with dials, things that stimulate his skills.

Most important of all, make sure you exercise with the child! You would like to get back in shape after giving birth, did you know that to lose weight and keep it off, you need also to exercise.

You can shed pounds away just strolling outdoor with your baby. Walking is recommended as part of a weight loss program.

Walking at a moderate pace for 30-60 minutes burns stored fat and can build muscle to speed up your metabolism. Walking an hour a day is also associated with cutting your risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and stroke. Isn’t it time to work 1-hour walks into your and your baby lifestyle?

Learning together, touching, smiling and sharing improve human relations. Creating a family gymnastics program and enjoying it on a regular basis is a terrific way to enjoy time together as well as to keep in shape. After all, you owe it to your toddler, who, having enjoyed the diaper fitness program, expects to learn new skills. Set time aside everyday to exercise and stroll for yourself and your baby.

Have a nice stroll

How To Deal With Baby Bedtime Fussiness?

Sleeping plays a vital role in the mental and physical development of your baby so it is important to have him get enough sleep. A newborn baby spends most hours of the day sleeping.

The sleeping habits of a baby can be very frustrating for parents because during the first few weeks of your baby, he will wake up several times at night. When your baby cries at night, he may be hungry or you may need to change his diaper.

If feeding him or changing his diaper does not get him back to sleep, maybe it is time to keep track of his daytime activities which may affect his sleeping pattern.

Setting a daily routine for your baby will help to establish his biological clock. For example, you can do a fixed routine pattern such as bathing him in the morning, then feeding and then playing while in the evening you can do story-telling, feeding and then giving him a lullaby. After some time of doing this routine everyday, your baby will start understanding when he is supposed to play and when to sleep.

One possible reason why your baby cannot go to sleep at night is he might had more than enough sleep during the day. A good idea would be to play with him until he gets tired at the end of the day. Playing with your baby will also help him discover new things.

You may also take your baby somewhere during the day for him to see new things. Bringing him to a park or shopping mall or to a house of your friend will help stimulate his mental ability.

A newborn baby usually takes a nap for a period of 30 minutes to 3 hours and takes a total of up to 17 and 18 hours in a day. However, sleeping habits will vary as he grows. You do not have a choice but to be patient during the first few weeks. After all, babies will outgrow their bedtime fussiness over time and you can get back to your normal sleeping habits.

Baby Care Tips

The mother of a baby is the most busy person on earth, when she is not very gathered about her daily routine vis-à-vis the baby.

Breast feeding

Everyday she has to bother about the baby’s feeding, sleeping, clothing, changing and bathing. It is the best to feed your own milk to the child. Please do not forget to give her the first milk of yours because that would contain colostrums, which is vital for the immune system of the child. Mother’s milk will always create the body resistance and the child will be a healthy one in future.

When you are breast feeding your child, the food that causes problems in your body may be communicated to the baby as well. Foods that cause gas or cold should be avoided or the baby will have uncomfortable state or congestion.

Bottle feeding

If you are bottle-feeding your baby for some reasons, then make sure that the bottles are well sterilized and clean. Scrub them with washing liquids. Boil them for 25 minutes to kill unwanted organism that may have developed in it due to the fermenting milk. Steam sterilizer and cold sterilizer methods are also there, about which one has to consult with an expert and should see to it that those are readily available in the market.

Baby sleeping

The materials needed to put the baby to sleep are a good, firm mattress, sheets and blankets. Keep one feet distance from the nostril range of the baby if you are lying along with your baby on the same bed. There should not be unnecessary clothing or clothes around the baby’s body and bed which may cause temperature rise and heating. The baby is not going to talk about it, and you should be sensitive enough to remove the body coverings as much as possible. There should be a mosquito net, or at least a netted covering around the baby to keep away the flies and the mosquitoes.

Clothing

Summer clothes should be light cotton ones. When the baby is taken out, make sure that his head does not get the direct sun. In winter, there may be sweaters, trousers and other woolens.

Changing

The baby’s diapers should be regularly changed. The intervals should be fixed according to the baby’s routine of potting and wetting. Despite the routine, the baby may need changing because of untimely nature calls at times. It is the baby’s right to feel dry at every moment. See to it that the bed is not wetted and the smelly clothes and bed sheets are removed.

Bathing

The baby needs a mouth washing with cotton. A bath tub large enough to hold it and is easy to wash should be made available. The baby should enjoy the water which can be assessed if leg splashing which is very distinct. The baby should be rubbed with baby oil and baby cream. The nail clippers should be used at bath time. After bath, the baby should be thoroughly dried and should be applied with a baby powder.

Immunisation

The baby should be immunized against Small Pox & Measles with BCG within 3 months of its age. The first DPT (Diphtheria, Tetanus, Psertussis, Polio, HIB, Meningitis C) is due within the first 2 months followed by the 2nd and the 3rd one at one month intervals. The MMR vaccination against Measles, Mumps and Rubella should be done within 1 years of age. The boosters should be taken after the baby is 4 years old.

Training and Education

Though regular training and teaching should not be started before the age of three years, the child’s habits and sense of discipline is cultivated through the discipline the mother maintains. When the mother is calm against odds like the baby fever, or baby dysentery while making sure of the treatments, the child gets the idea to be calm against disastrous times.

The most important babycare tip

The parents should find enough time to spend with the baby.

Healthy measures for babies

The first and foremost measure to the child raising is health. This is what takes up most efforts of parents of today. Some parents are busy with their daily routine of household work and tend to pay little tribute to the health. This must not happen because we all know that health is wealth. Parents who are running a full time job have to change their schedule just for the sake of their child’s health. At least working mothers should put more thought to her baby’s health apart from her job alone.

Most working mothers have baby sitters to look after their baby. This sounds very disapproving because the duration these babies spend with the baby sitters must be spent with their mothers. This will create a strong bond between the mother and the baby. The tools these mothers handle the babies with and the other accessories that they use must pass a certain standard. There are some many brands out today that sell baby products. Out of all of them it is very difficult to find out which one is effective as well as healthy. The tools that relates to the health of the baby must all come with a label of certification and an ability to boil.

Some parents go for low quality products because of a reasonable price. This is a very dangerous step. Baby products must not be bought by looking at their cheaper rates. Cheap ones are not only short lasting but also unhygienic inferior items. Consulting the baby’s doctor in selecting milk and other products is a good measure. Tips to Keep Your Baby Healthy and Smiling

Postnatal care is an important period of parenthood when both the father and the mother have to divide their responsibilities towards their new-born.The period from birth till the baby is six weeks old is extremely crucial. Both the parents have to be alert and take care of the health and hygiene in and around the house to curb possibilities of the baby incurring allergy and other diseases.

How to choose the best products

Baby products have to be chosen with extreme care. Therefore,it is always advisable to consult a doctor or a child specialist before planning to buy baby accessories.Right from bathtubs, clothes, soaps, towels to feeding nipples and pillow covers, everything should be customized for the safety and comfort of your little one. Here are some tips to choose the best baby products the next time you go shopping:

Carriers: Baby carriers should have safety straps so that the baby doesn’t topple. It should have number of compartments for storage space.Make sure that the fabric that is being used is soft, washable and durable.Frame carriers as infant seats are a bad choice since there are high chances of the baby tip over anything without your awareness.

Bath tubs: These are an essential part of a baby’s daily routine. However, these are risky too if not handled with care. While buying a bathtub make sure that it is made of thick plastic that would stay put even under the weight of water. That way,its durable too.Bath rings, baby floatation devices, suction seats and foam cushions are a strict no since these can indirectly cause harm to the infant by drowning or choking it.Also ensure that there are enough compartments for holding shampoo, soap and other supplies so that you don’t have to go fetching one thing or the other leaving your baby alone.

Infant seat: Buy baby accessories, which do not have sharp edges or metal finishing since that could lead to injury. An ideal infant seat, for instance should have a wider base than the seat and it should have locking mechanism to strengthen the safety of the infant.

Toys: All toys, whether new ones or the old ones should be checked for broken parts since there is danger of your child getting choked.Age recommendations marked on top of the box should be kept into consideration. It shouldn’t have any sharp edges lest the baby hurts its eyes, nose, and throat.Discard all toys manufactured 1978 because they are not lead tested and may contain the element in the paint applied on the toy.Balloons or latex gloves should not be given to infants since that may lead to choking.

Changing tables: Wooden changing tables are the most popular among young mothers. These are stable and enable good hold on the baby as the rail avoids the baby from toppling.Make sure that the guardrail installed around the table is 2 inches thick. If you are using a fold-up model, look for sturdiness once you open it.
