Baby oil is one of the most common products that are being used in caring for babies. It contains mineral oils and a fragrance, and is used for a number of things. Here are some of the uses of baby oil:

Remove ear wax build-up

Used along with your baby’s bubble bath to soften skin
Applied to baby’s scalp to treat and/or prevent cradle cap.
Remove bubble gum
Used for massages that can relax and keep your baby warm
Used in creating homemade baby wipes.

Because it is quite thin, baby oil can easily drip or spill on to clothes. And because it is oil, it can be tough to get out of clothes and may not come out through a regular wash. Fortunately there is a way to get baby oil out of your child’s clothes. Here is how:

Before you do anything, drastic, first try treating the oil-stained baby clothes using pre-wash or pre-treatment stain removers that permeate through the stain and loosen its bond with the fabric, and then wash them according to care instructions. If this does not work, there are a couple of things you can do to take baby oil out of your child’s clothes.

          ]]>

Oil stain can be removed quickly if you treat it as quickly as possible. First, lay the soiled clothes on a flat surface such as a table. Sprinkle cornstarch over the stained areas so that some of the oil will be absorbed. Let it sit for 5 to 15 minutes for maximum absorption. Brush the cornstarch off afterwards using a dry sponge.

Next, pour a bit of liquid dish or laundry detergent onto the stained area and gently rub it into the fabric of the clothes using a soft, damp sponge. Let it sit for about 15 minutes.

After letting it sit for several minutes, rinse the stained area by running it under warm water. Keep rinsing until you have removed all the suds from the detergent soap. Most of the soap should have been removed during this stage in the process as well.

Pour a few drops of dish or laundry detergent again on to the areas. Or, you can apply a pre-wash stain treatment if you wish. Next, throw the clothes into the washing machine. Add in a baby-safe laundry detergent and run your baby’s clothes through a warm water wash. If the material does not allow it, or if the care instructions say you can’t wash the clothing item in warm water, then it is better to run it in cold or water.

Dry the washed clothing items on a clothes line rather than in the dryer. After the clothes have dried, check if there are still any stains remaining. If there are still stains on the clothes, pour in a few drops of dish or laundry detergent on to the spot once more and wash the clothes again in warm water (if the material and/or care instructions permit) and baby-safe laundry detergent.

For nine long months, you gave up your body for the sake of your child. You avoided your favorite Cokes, made sure you did not intake too much salt, stayed away from shellfish and resisted that beautiful glass of red wine that you used to enjoy with your bubble bath each night. And all of this was okay, because you knew the end result; a healthy baby was worth it. Now, you are holding your precious baby – struggling to get 8 hours of sleep and are excited to have your body back to yourself. Except for you have decided to take the road to health and breastfeed. Doctors and books are now telling you again what you can and cannot eat or drink in order to not compromise your baby’s health. Alcohol, of course is one of those things.

But recent research and information provided by the La Leche League is now trying to help nursing mothers to understand that they breastfeeding is not all about self-sacrifice. Scientific research into the effects of alcohol and breastfeeding has even indicated that having a beer or glass of Chablis while you are breastfeeding is not going to hurt your baby. Here’s why.

Alcohol enters the breast milk in the same way it does the blood stream. Similarly, when the alcohol has left the blood stream it is also out of the breast milk. Your milk might be left with a sour after taste from your drink of choice, but the effects of alcohol are no longer a threat to your baby. What many nursing mothers do after indulging in an adult beverage is pump and dump their breast milk like a mad woman, ridden with guilt and worried that they will intoxicate their baby. Research suggests that this not necessary. In fact, what they do recommend is that you pump milk prior to drinking so that your baby will have fresh, untainted breast milk while you are enjoying your favorite wine or mixed drink. Then, to flush your body with plenty of fluids and allow the alcohol to leave your blood stream and breast milk.

Now obviously, this is not to suggest or recommend that breastfeeding mothers now have the right to become alcoholics or over indulge in alcohol. This is simply talking about having a drink in moderation. It is also about the realization that just because you are breastfeeding, does not mean that you are necessarily greatly restricted as you were during pregnancy. For many women, the choice to not breastfeed is due to the fact that they do not want to be restrained from enjoying things that they enjoy in life, such as a cold beer or glass of wine. Being tied down to your baby for feedings can be compounded when you are also limited about what you can enjoy.

What you should know if you are breastfeeding is that during the first two months of your infant’s life, their liver is underdeveloped. This means that drinking and breastfeeding CAN hurt your baby. But as mentioned above, once the alcohol is out of your blood stream and breast milk, your baby will be fine. If you are still concerned, then you should go ahead and pump and dump your milk after wards so that you will not feel guilty after having a drink.

If you have chosen to breastfeed, you should be careful what you eat and drink. Spicy foods can cause stomach upset that is more debilitating than what a glass of wine would cause. The key is to keep things in balance. You should never breastfeed your baby while you are in the midst of drinking, because this would ensure that they would get some alcohol content from your breast milk. Also, if you are planning to drink make sure that there is someone sober to watch your baby. But the bottom line is that sometimes a small drink in the evening as you spend some time with your spouse can really take the edge off of life and make you feel like an adult again. If you are skipping out because you are afraid that you will hurt your baby, don’t! Breast feeding is a huge sacrifice and one that you will never regret, but you don’t have to feel that you have to avoid all the things in life that you enjoy.

A baby shower is the most common form of celebrating the arrival of your bundle of joy. If you are going to attend a baby shower, it is expected that you are going to bring some gifts for the soon-to-be parents and their baby. And if you have a hard time thinking of what gift you will buy, this article will give you some baby shower gift ideas which will be useful for the parents and the baby.

1. Diapers. It may not be the most interesting gift for a baby shower but it is the most practical and most appreciated gift for the new parents. They will be happy to receive lots of diapers because the baby will needs tons of this up to his toddler stage. It is also safe to buy the larger size since babies grow rapidly.

2. Baby Bathroom Essentials. Giving bathroom essentials such as towel, baby cologne, lotion, body scrub and bubble bath will also be useful for the baby. You may buy these items in sets, which may cost cheaper rather than buying them in pieces. It is also a good idea to buy items with interesting designs.

3. Bottles and Pacifiers. These are also usable items. However, some babies want to use only a specific shape or brand. It is safer to check with the parents-to-be if they have specific choice for these items.

4. Baby Clothes. This is one of the basic necessities of a baby. It is a good idea to buy clothes, which the baby may use later than buying sizes for the newborn. After all, babies will grow fast and their clothing size change very quickly.

5. Baby Toys. If you prefer to give baby toys or something entertaining, it is a good idea to give something educational and will stimulate the mental power of your child. You can buy baby storybooks or educational compact disc. In buying books, choose those that have large and colorful pictures.

There you have some useful and practical gift ideas, which you may bring to a baby shower. If you still cannot decide, a gift certificate would be the safest gift you can give. The new parents will also be able to buy items which they really need.
