Ready for Winter

Now the summer has gone and autumn is definitely in the air, mums thoughts turn to winter coats, gloves, hats and scarves and baby blankets.  Over the years we have been through most versions of winter clothing in our house at some point such as waterproof trousers, snow boots and other bits and bobs.  It can get very complicated getting ready in the mornings and finding everything you need.  For babies, the best solution is that you have a baby travel wrap or baby blanket on the buggy or pram all the time with cosy toes or pram cover, that way you know where it is and you can just put your baby in and go.  For older children organisation is the key and it has taken me many years to get to the point where I can say we are finally sorted.

We have all our coats hung up in the cupboard and I have hooks lower down on the door for children’s coats so they reach them.  When it comes to hats gloves and scarves, I got a big round tall basket which they all go in, in the cupboard.  The kids can pull it out and find what they need; I am still trying to train them to put everything back in when they have found what they are looking for.  I have realised that it is best to buy several pairs of cheap gloves for each child, because no matter how hard you try, you always end up losing one or both gloves of a pair.

Shoes, trainers and welly’s, you cannot imagine how many children require for various activities, again I eventually came up with a solution, we have a shoe rack by the door for adult shoes, but when it comes to kids shoes I decided to get a big basket which goes by the door, this means that the children can get their own shoes and put them away on their own.

When it comes to babies, you can have hats and gloves, but they quite often lose them so it is better if you can get a baby blanket that incorporates a hood within its design

The most important thing is time, allow yourself plenty of time before you go out to get ready not only to get everything on, but also to allow for discussion about what your child does and does not want to wear!  We had many of these; things that they were happy to wear one day had changed by the next!  If you can get your baby into the pram ready to go, but leave the baby blanket off, it will avoid them getting too hot while they are waiting, especially if you have any delays!

As the colder weather comes and children are returning to school and playgroup , whether it be coats, hats, gloves, welly’s or baby blankets the key is getting organised to make going out as easy as possible!

I have children myself and I write about products and tips which are useful to parents, they cover making life less fuss and more fun, saving time and getting out and about with young babies and children.  Some of my articles are interesting but they try to have a bit of fun and laughter about them.

Diaper cakes are a perfect gift idea because they provide mom and baby with much needed supplies while still allowing you to add a little originality and creativity. Combine your imagination with the party theme or nursery color scheme, add in a few extra special accessories, and you will have a gift that will thrill the mom or mom-to-be, and be remembered for years to come. In fact, pictures of these stunning creations are guaranteed an honored place in the pages of every family’s memory scrapbook.

Choosing a Diaper Cake Color Scheme:

In addition to diapers, your cake will likely include other items for the new baby’s room such as blankets, stuffed animals, or picture frames. Choosing a color scheme or theme that matches the nursery will ensure that your thoughtful gifts are both useful and complementary to the décor.

You may also choose the color based on the new baby’s gender or select a neutral tone that is appropriate for either a boy or girl and will fit well with any decorating style.

Cover your cake in a blanket of icing using a bath towel, quilt, or crib sheet that matches your chosen color scheme. Add complementary ribbon such as pink for a girl, blue for a boy, yellow for a Winnie-the-Pooh nursery, or green for a jungle themed room. Complete your creation with matching flowers or accessories.

Choosing the Perfect Shape for Your Diaper Cake:

Although it requires a little extra time, you can make your cake truly unique by designing creative shapes that will have guests begging for your ‘recipe’. Elegant tiered cakes, stacked atop one another or separated by pedestals add class and sophistication to a very practical gift. Ice with receiving blankets and colorful sprinkles of pacifiers, baby socks, rattles, and stuffed animals.

Make a bassinet pattern from cardboard, use a ribbon to securely cover the outside with diapers, and fill the inside with baby items such as oil, powder, face cloths, and onesies. A baby blanket makes a great hood, and you can even transform your creation into a carriage by rolling additional diapers into wheels and adding a handle made from wire covered with washcloths or towels.

Cover the outside of a bushel basket with rolled diapers, line the bottom with baby blankets or crib sheets, and set a pair of large stuffed animals, rag dolls, or plush superheros inside. Make a boat pattern using diapers for the base and a washcloth for a sail. Of course, a stuffed teddy will make a great captain. Or, turn your boat into a Noah’s ark, adding in a twig ladder and pairs of animals. If you have the time and inclination you can even make Noah’s creatures yourself using baby washcloths and socks.

For a winter baby, use diapers to make a snowman from three different sized diaper rolls stacked on top of each other. Cover with white towels, add a scarf and hat, attach eyes and even a carrot nose – made from an orange wash cloth, of course! Wrap ribbon between each layer or glue buttons down the front to complete your personalized “Frosty”.

Are you expecting a little princess. Design a pink diaper castle. Welcoming a rambunctious little boy? Why not create a diaper tricycle? Or, make a platter of mini-cakes using individual diapers rolled and placed in cupcake containers.

Choosing Your Diaper Cake Accessories:

While diapers provide the base of your creation, it is the accessories that add the unique and personal touches. Welcome a little girl with a princess cake topped with a magic wand and bejeweled crown. Or, introduce the new addition to the excitement of tea parties by attaching mini cups, saucers, and teapots.

Follow a Winnie-the-Pooh theme by choosing Pooh covered items such as pacifiers, rattles, and socks. You could even have a plush Pooh climbing the side of your cake in an attempt to reach a bouncy Tigger perched at the top.

Are you welcoming a Christmas baby? Wrap your diaper cake in holly, top with a Santa hat, and include a special baby’s first Christmas ornament. Create a jungle themed cake by accessorizing with zebra print ribbon, jungle grasses, palm trees, and jungle animals. As an added touch, include a swinging monkey or a tree house.

By making diaper cakes you can give a unique and useful gift that can be customized to any theme and will receive top marks for presentation and creativity. And, for an eco-friendly option, you can even substitute cloth diapers for disposable ones and please the environmentally conscious mother-to-be.

A new grandparent can be a good source of help when the right advice and enough support is given. However many families fall out because what a grandma forgets is that its not her baby but that its only a grandchild.

Lets look at how some overhelping hands from an eager grandparent can turn into an argument.

Nanna takes charge!

”This is the way you get the baby’s wind up Carol”,

Taking baby straight from mum and showing her. This is no way to get respect, you aren’t even giving her the chance.

Alternative way is “Carol if you find it hard just gives us a yell and ill have a go for you”.Notice the grandparent remians unobtrusive in her approach, a much better way.

Mum takes baby in pram into a coldback garden to rock her to sleep without any blanket on.

Nanny Takes charge!

“Carol get that baby a blanket on.Carol do it now before she catches cold”

Alternative way Nanna could always ask “did the health visitor give you guidelines for keeping baby warm without putting too many blankets on”.oh she hasnt got one shall i fetch you one at least to keep the chill off her. This way she is asking for approval before getting a blanket. This way makes mum think is baby warm enough without being nagged at by nanna.

Being a good grandparent the easy way without causing friction, in just 7 easy steps.
Give the new mum sound advice about a newborn grandchild without seeming to be interfering.
Don’t offer to show her how to old her newborn baby let mum learn for herself.
Don’t take over if the dad wants a try his hand at bathing the newbaby etc it will knock his self confidence.
Offer to do chores at her house whilst she tends to the baby, but offer to take over caring for the little one if she wants to take a nap.
Remember don’t get carried away by being to fussy, wanting to take over as the mother figure is not good, its her newborn baby after all.
Be there at the end of the phone when she needs to ask you what to do, but don’t rush over and take over. Being a new mum is also about learning to do things your self but with good support from family.
Offer your baby sitting services once in a while ie send her a greeting card with voucher for 2 baby sitting nights in.

All About Choosing The Right Crib Sets

Crib sets are central to a well equipped nursery and so have to be included to help make your baby more comfortable and to make the nursery a more safe place.

There is endless number of choices available for you in regard to picking the right colors and patterns as well as the best styles. You will of course want to choose different items for an infant girl and also for your baby boy.

In so far as choosing crib sets for girls go you need to pick something that adds a touch of welcome to the nursery and which is of good quality but which is not too expensive. There are many options available though an example of a good sheet would be something that combines winding vines with classical stripes. What is important is that when choosing sets for the infant girl’s crib that you pick something that includes boxed bumpers and which has an accompanying printed quilt and a nice pure cotton sheet.

On the other hand, when choosing crib sets for boys you should look at something that creates the right tone for a little boy. It means that it should also be something that will ensure that after feeding and rocking the boy to sleep that they can safely be put in their cribs and there enjoy an uninterrupted nap.

What is however important is to choose quality items that are priced so that you don’t end up burning a hole in your pocket. It is also necessary that you pick a warm soft set that will provide the infant with a comfortable place to relax and sleep in and which can become their safe home. A nice blanket can even become the child’s security blanket which they will become very attached to. The sheets should be of soft and pure cotton to provide soft comfort to the child as he sleeps in his crib.

Crib sets can help to simplify the decorative aspect of a nursery. You can pick sets that only contain minimal amount of baby bedding and which typically include just a crib sheet and baby blanket as well as a dust ruffle. Or, you can go for a more extensive set that has all these items plus some nice diaper organizers, window covering and crib bumpers as well as wall decorations and more in the same vein.

Last but not the least, be sure to also think about purchasing neutral sets that will suit either a boy or girl infant and for better choice be sure to visit Crib Bedding Now where you will get quality at budget prices.

Finding A Unique Newborn Baby Gift

So there’s a special new baby in your life, and you’d like to give a unique gift. You don’t want to head down to the department store and buy something on sale, something that they may already have or not need. You don’t want to buy them something like diapers, or a basic sleeper or two.

You’d rather not go in on a group gift to get them something big like a crib or stroller. You want something they don’t have, something that will make their jaw drop when they open up your unique newborn baby gift. And so you need a newborn baby gift idea that is unique.

Gifts That are Personalized

While personalization as an method of making gifts more special has come back in vogue, giving a personalized item for a newborn baby gift is unique. The item – often a bib, blanket, bath towel, or photo frame – can be personalized by the store, adding the newborn baby’s name, date of birth, height and weight, and whatever else you’d like them to add. These items are appreciated by the family and treasured for a lifetime. Years later, the child can still cuddle with the baby blanket that has her name written in script all around the edges, or look at baby pictures in a frame that has her name on it.

Gifts That Capture an Infancy

As we all know, babies grow up way too fast! Thankfully, there are gifts you can give that can help the parents capture their child’s infancy and keep it a bit longer. Consider the unique newborn baby gift of a kit to keep baby’s handprint and footprint.

Giving Baby Jewelry

Another unique newborn baby gift is jewelry. Babies can wear earrings, bracelets, or rings. Once the baby is a bit older, a necklace will also be alright. Each of these make an eye-popping gift and would be kept and valued for a lifetime.

Wrap It Up and Send It There

Through many specialty stores and a wide range of stores over the Internet, unique newborn baby gifts can be bought in gift baskets. Some items included are basic things that every parent will use, like bibs, undershirts, sleepers, and diapers. But they usually also include a unique component, like special toys or a “lovey” for the baby to cuddle with. A nice benefit is also the basket that can be used for many things for years to come.
