Exercise: for you and your newborn baby

To begin regular exercise with your newborn, you’ll want to capture his interest first.  You can start by simply putting your newborn baby on a blanket to watch you exercise. Let your baby see you doing exercises at home or strolling in the park. When your child see you, parents, exercising and be active they will grow up believing that exercise is a healthy habit and is natural, which is the way to an healthier lifestyle. Keep reading for suggestions and tips on integrating physical activities into your baby’s routine.

Why is it some children seem to develop at a faster rate than their peers? Because parents that take care of the physical and intellectual growth of their baby and child, have more active children later on in life. But keep in mind that the first step toward promoting physical activity in your child is to be active yourself! A child’s attitude toward exercise is definitely shaped by the attitude of the parents. Active children generally have active parents who encourage their children to exercise.

By the time babies reach the age of one month (or they recover their full birth weight), they need and enjoy movement and fresh air. At this stage of life, babies need their parents’ encouragement to move. As the baby gets older, movement and exercise help him maintain balance, develop strength, and use new muscles. Starting exercise at any early age helps to establish a habit of activity that carries over into adulthood.
.

You can start exercising your child when he is about one month old or has regained his birth weight. You can have an exercise session at any time but bath time or the evening is probably the best. The session can be long or short depending on your child’s response. Keep the length of the session consistent, and try to do it at the same time every day. The idea is to fit exercise into the daily routine of you and baby.

If you perform the exercises in the same place every day, the child becomes familiar with the feel of the floor, the bed or the surroundings. Consequently, when placed in that situation, baby will react by kicking, cooing, twisting, and smiling.

Try not to put your child in a playpen or crib unless it is nap time. When he is awake, give him every possible opportunity to crawl around on the floor and explore. If the child must be in a crib or playpen, supply objects as blocks, toys with dials, things that stimulate his skills.

Most important of all, make sure you exercise with the child! You would like to get back in shape after giving birth, did you know that to lose weight and keep it off, you need also to exercise.

You can shed pounds away just strolling outdoor with your baby. Walking is recommended as part of a weight loss program.

Walking at a moderate pace for 30-60 minutes burns stored fat and can build muscle to speed up your metabolism. Walking an hour a day is also associated with cutting your risk of heart disease, breast cancer, colon cancer, diabetes and stroke. Isn’t it time to work 1-hour walks into your and your baby lifestyle?

Learning together, touching, smiling and sharing improve human relations. Creating a family gymnastics program and enjoying it on a regular basis is a terrific way to enjoy time together as well as to keep in shape. After all, you owe it to your toddler, who, having enjoyed the diaper fitness program, expects to learn new skills. Set time aside everyday to exercise and stroll for yourself and your baby.

Have a nice stroll

View of the Britax Companion child Car Seat

Fantastic buy, safest infant seat on the market, consumer reports rated one, lots of features would purchase it again.

We love it. It is heavy to carry but i would not trust a lighter car seat to hold up in a grim crash and would rather have a robust awfully solid child car seat like this one than a cheaper lighter plastic model that other makers sell. ( The push chair is the lightweight Euro style and takes up very little room in the car so we can just snap the seat in and do not have to carry the car seat around ). That solves the weight issue.

More Info: What You Need to Know Before Buying a Britax Companion Infant Car Seat: Review
The color and seat look ALOT better in person. In fact, the nurses in the NICU unit ( our baby was premature ) complimented it during our boy’s car seat study and they see car seats every day, and related this was such a pleasant looking car seat with neat features. ( He had to sit in it for an hour with no heartbeat rate or oxygen drops while he had his monitors on and even though he was miniscule and looked so small this seat kept him snug and in the right position and he didnt cry once ).

I acquired the Cambridge model because the Oxford was delayed in production so long, I wouldn’t had it in time for Aidan’s birth ( and seemingly going home with a newborn child and no carseat is a no no ). I’m not normal anyhow, so why would I care?
The Cambridge isn’t a bad color range — it isn’t pretty by any wild leap of the imagination, and other patterns would’ve been far trendier and cooler, but there are reasons I like it. The carseat already gets warm, but could you imagine a dark color scheme? I believe I’d have Kentucky Fried Aidan if I put him in a black ( or maybe dark blue ) carseat. The Cambridge pattern is manly enough for a boy, but also pretty enough for a girl ( for those folks who need a more female look ). Personally, I would stick a little girl in black sooner than I’d pink… But I know I’m not the majority on this, and I’m in possession of a feeling many parents of girls will select this pattern.

I have only washed it once ( from a particularly tragic potty situation ), the rest of the time I just spot clean it. The lighter colors also work fine for concealing spit-up stains — which have a propensity to show up colourfuly against a dark background.

The excess of fabric options ( and now plastic options ), appearance and quality of the fabrics and the simplicity of cleaning make me give the Britax Companion carseat an A.

This also has an inflatable head support which incorporates it.
It is very easy to adjust the straps and stress and all of the parts are very well made.
Another feature is that this has an ANTI REBOUND BAR attached to the base so in a harsh crash the seat ( rear facing ) won’t fly forward into the back of the seat from rebound therefore shielding the child from getting smashed into the back of the seat. This is the sole car seat on the market which has this. It has also got excellent side impact protection.

Once attached to the base the seat is is terribly secure and is really easy to snap in and out. The bar on top which you use to carry it is really sturdy ( won’t move or snap out of kilter ) but straightforward to adjust ( unlike what another reader stated ) and has 3 positions and once in the base you simply push the large red buttons ( everything is obviously labeled ) on both sides and the handle easily goes all of the way back and snaps in place so it is behind the seat and acts as another rebound bar. I’m able to push it forward with my thumbs while sitting next to it and I have arthritis.

what is also very nice is that the base is very simple to install. ( In the CR test most new car LATCH systems snapped at only 30mph so we use the seat belt ) though it does come with the LATCH system and passed.

I would definately purchase this again and it was worth every penny.

All About Choosing The Right Crib Sets

Crib sets are central to a well equipped nursery and so have to be included to help make your baby more comfortable and to make the nursery a more safe place.

There is endless number of choices available for you in regard to picking the right colors and patterns as well as the best styles. You will of course want to choose different items for an infant girl and also for your baby boy.

In so far as choosing crib sets for girls go you need to pick something that adds a touch of welcome to the nursery and which is of good quality but which is not too expensive. There are many options available though an example of a good sheet would be something that combines winding vines with classical stripes. What is important is that when choosing sets for the infant girl’s crib that you pick something that includes boxed bumpers and which has an accompanying printed quilt and a nice pure cotton sheet.

On the other hand, when choosing crib sets for boys you should look at something that creates the right tone for a little boy. It means that it should also be something that will ensure that after feeding and rocking the boy to sleep that they can safely be put in their cribs and there enjoy an uninterrupted nap.

What is however important is to choose quality items that are priced so that you don’t end up burning a hole in your pocket. It is also necessary that you pick a warm soft set that will provide the infant with a comfortable place to relax and sleep in and which can become their safe home. A nice blanket can even become the child’s security blanket which they will become very attached to. The sheets should be of soft and pure cotton to provide soft comfort to the child as he sleeps in his crib.

Crib sets can help to simplify the decorative aspect of a nursery. You can pick sets that only contain minimal amount of baby bedding and which typically include just a crib sheet and baby blanket as well as a dust ruffle. Or, you can go for a more extensive set that has all these items plus some nice diaper organizers, window covering and crib bumpers as well as wall decorations and more in the same vein.

Last but not the least, be sure to also think about purchasing neutral sets that will suit either a boy or girl infant and for better choice be sure to visit Crib Bedding Now where you will get quality at budget prices.

Many people have benefited from quality and informative writings of Michael Russell on special baby nursery. Writing on a website currently on baby bedding and crib sets, he is making it easier for people designing matching nursery room decors with ease and convenience.

Must-Have Equipment for a New Baby

With the birth of my second child soon approaching it is time to make the final assessment of our items on hand. Which items are guaranteed to be used? Which items can wait until we learn this baby’s temperament? Using the experience of my son’s early days I have come to the conclusion that less is necessary than the media and society would have you believe.

One thing you cannot go without –- ever — is a car seat. Hospitals will not allow you to leave with your child until they have checked that your car seat is properly installed in the vehicle that is bringing you home. Even if you Do not own a car you will need a car seat: friends and family will surely be willing to drive you and your child.

The next most important item is a nursing pillow. Not only will a nursing pillow help you nurse your infant in comfort, it will also be something you can use to help develop your child’s physical strength if you incorporate it into the tummy-time that doctors recommend be a part of each day. This is one item that you will definitely get your money’s worth.  Do not forget to grab a few nursing bras while you’re at the store.

Although most people have a crib ready for their baby while still in-utero, I think it’s uncommon for newborns to spend the night away from their mother and father. A more practical solution for the early days would be a co-sleeper (an extension to the parent’s bed specially designed to ensure the safety of the infant while keeping her within reach to make nursing easy) or even a bassinet or Moses Basket.

Although a great thing to have on hand, make sure you choose your stroller according to your particular lifestyle. Some families will use their stroller daily, and will need a sturdy stroller that can withstand the abuse. If your lifestyle will have you using a stroller less frequently, look at umbrella strollers which will allow you to keep one on hand without spending a lot for an item that will get infrequent use.

Our society views pacifiers as a norm, but are not always a good idea. Not only can using pacifiers inhibit nursing patterns from developing properly, but can also be seen as a quick fix for a crying child. Newborns cry for a number of different reasons, and although the pacifier will most likely quiet her there is no guarantee that it will be fulfilling her wishes or emotional needs. When used properly, pacifiers can be an appropriate addition to other soothing methods, just remember to remain aware that your infant’s needs are varied.

Every family is unique, and that should be taken into account when shopping for your family’s newest member. Always educate yourself to the possible benefits and drawbacks of a product before you make your purchase. Do not ever feel like you need something just because your neighbor has something similar, and feel free to outfit your home with any item you feel will make your life simpler. The simpler your life is the more you will enjoy your child.

Michelle Patelle, stay-at-home mother and writer, hopes that nursing mothers will investigate their choices at sites such as http://babylovesyourmilk.com, which has information about hospital breast pumps and other breast pump reviews.

Fun Ideas For Your Baby Bedding Theme

You have been waiting so long for your little bundle of joy to come out and so you want everything to be perfect as you welcome him to your family. One of the things that excite soon-to-be parents will be the preparation of the baby bedding.

There is a wide array of bedding for your baby available in the market which you can buy in set or in separate pieces. A bed set usually includes sheet, pillows, comforter, and pillowcases. Buying in set may sometimes be cheaper than purchasing by piece.

Aside from the bedding design and color, you also have to decide on the fabric it is made of. Most common options are cotton, silk, flannel and fleece. The flannel fabric is what most couples prefer because it is cheaper compared to silk.

Another important factor that you have to consider in choosing your baby bedding is gender. If you are expecting a baby girl, pink is the most common choice, while blue for a baby boy. It is also good to put a little shade of blue on a girls room.

It could also be fun and more fascinating for the eyes of your baby to have a theme in the room. For a boys room, you may have cars, trucks, airplanes or fire engines. Sports theme is also common for boys. Having bright colors in the nursery room will stimulate the sense of sight of your baby.

For girls, you can either go for Barbie, faeries, princess, ballerinas, butterflies or flowers. If you are not yet sure if you will have a boy or a girl, non-gender specific themes are also available such as solar system, animals, cartoon characters like Barney, Sponge Bob, and many others.

These are all available in the market so you will not have any trouble looking for a perfect theme for your baby.

For crib bedding, you may have it custom made because chances are you might not be able to find a bedding that would fit your crib pattern. If you have preference for the color and fabric, you may buy the materials and have the bedding sewn by a skilled person.

Preparing the room of your little angel can be a challenging task but so much fun and will make you feel like a child again. Designing the room of your baby will also showcase your creativity and resourcefulness. The baby inside your womb may also feel that he is very welcome in your home.

How To Deal With Baby Bedtime Fussiness?

Sleeping plays a vital role in the mental and physical development of your baby so it is important to have him get enough sleep. A newborn baby spends most hours of the day sleeping.

The sleeping habits of a baby can be very frustrating for parents because during the first few weeks of your baby, he will wake up several times at night. When your baby cries at night, he may be hungry or you may need to change his diaper.

If feeding him or changing his diaper does not get him back to sleep, maybe it is time to keep track of his daytime activities which may affect his sleeping pattern.

Setting a daily routine for your baby will help to establish his biological clock. For example, you can do a fixed routine pattern such as bathing him in the morning, then feeding and then playing while in the evening you can do story-telling, feeding and then giving him a lullaby. After some time of doing this routine everyday, your baby will start understanding when he is supposed to play and when to sleep.

One possible reason why your baby cannot go to sleep at night is he might had more than enough sleep during the day. A good idea would be to play with him until he gets tired at the end of the day. Playing with your baby will also help him discover new things.

You may also take your baby somewhere during the day for him to see new things. Bringing him to a park or shopping mall or to a house of your friend will help stimulate his mental ability.

A newborn baby usually takes a nap for a period of 30 minutes to 3 hours and takes a total of up to 17 and 18 hours in a day. However, sleeping habits will vary as he grows. You do not have a choice but to be patient during the first few weeks. After all, babies will outgrow their bedtime fussiness over time and you can get back to your normal sleeping habits.

Every baby is a blessing and you, as parents, are stewards of this blessing. You have waited long enough to welcome him to the outside world. If you are a first time parent, you may find these tips helpful in looking after your newborn.

1. Feed your baby right. Whether you have decided to feed your baby with breast milk or infant formula, make sure that you are giving him the right amount and at the right time.

Studies have proven that breast milk is still the best nourishment for newborn. However, if you have decided to use infant formula, check its label for the proper quantity and time interval for feeding your baby, unless your doctor recommends otherwise. Help your baby burp after feeding.

2. Have your baby get enough sleep. Newborn babies spend most hours of the day sleeping. During the first few weeks, your baby may sleep for only 30 minutes to 3 hours. After six weeks or more, you will notice that the sleeping pattern of your baby will change.

Do not be bothered if your baby keeps on sleeping as it helps in the mental and physical development of a child. However, you should wake him up if it is time to feed him.

3. Know the proper way of bathing your baby. Bathing a newborn for the first time can be the most terrifying experience for a first time mom. You do not have to bathe a newborn baby everyday.

It is enough to bathe him two to three times in a week using only a sponge. You should do this quickly since your baby is not yet used to cold environment.

Make sure that the umbilical cord will not get wet to avoid infection. You can only do tub bathing once the umbilical cord of your baby falls off.

4. Take good care of your baby’s delicate skin. His skin is very sensitive and so you should only use products for babies. They are also prone to skin rashes which are normal. However, if the rashes cause irritation and fever, you should consult your pediatrician.

5. Know when to give your baby his medicine. When your baby was required by the doctor to undergo certain medication, you should observe proper dosage and be conscious on any possible adverse reaction of your baby to the medication.

8 Tips in Making Your Home Safe for Your Baby

Keeping your baby away from danger is one of the most important things that parents should consider. Even if your baby is at the comfort of your own home, you still have to be sure that he is one hundred percent safe and out of risk. Below are some helpful tips to keep your baby safe at home.

1. Do not let anyone smoke inside your house or do any type of drugs.

2. Keep your doors locked to prevent dangerous people or animals from entering your house. You are also preventing your toddler from going outside your house.

3. Having a pet or animal at home is not safe for your baby. If you already have a pet, make sure that it cannot get near your baby to prevent him from getting hurt and at the same time preventing any allergies that may be caused by pet dander.

4. Always check on your baby while he is asleep. Make sure that he sleeps on his back to avoid suffocation or crib death. Remove any unnecessary stuff inside the crib such as toys, blankets, extra pillows, and the like.

5. Make sure that the crib is safe that your baby will not fall from it. The bars of the crib should be close enough so that the baby cannot slip through and to avoid your baby’s head from getting stuck on it.

6. If you have stairs at home and your baby starts to crawl, putting child gates will prevent him from falling down the steps. Child gates are available in department stores. You can also put them in doorways so that your little one will not go out. You may also use them to prevent animals from getting near your baby.

7. Cover electrical outlets at home when your child can reach them. Put a soft or rubber material on the edges of tables, as your child will bump at them once they start to walk. Check on the kid’s section of department stores for home gadgets that you can purchase for your child’s safety.

8. Keep materials that may harm your child out of reach. Do not let any small object lying around because your baby may swallow it as he explore things through his mouth.

Prevention of problems is still better than finding solutions to it. Have your child dwell in a safe home.

How To Pick Your Baby Shower Theme

The news that a couple will be having a new baby soon commonly brings joy to the household and make people who are close to the couple very perky and excited. It could be the notion that a baby comes as a blessing or just the plain excitement of having a new bundle of joy in the family that makes everyone in such an anticipative mood. With this feeling they come up with a lot of activities so that the mother will feel good as well as to celebrate a wonderful gift. A baby shower is one activity that is commonly organized for the pregnant woman. The occasion is all about her and the baby she is carrying. Here, loved ones and other important people to the family gather together and bring all sorts of gift for the mother and especially for the baby. When throwing such a party, among the first things that has to be considered are the possible baby shower themes.

There are several baby shower themes that can be chosen from. This of course depends on the choice of the pregnant woman herself if the party is organized with her knowledge and your choice of baby shower games to play. Of course because the party is paid for her and for her baby, her choice should as much as possible be realized. If not, she could be asked for alternatives that are more likely to happen. For those who are planning to surprise the pregnant woman, it would help to ask around from family and friends what she would love to see in the party. Talking with the husband for one could be very helpful because he should know the taste and favorite things of his wife.

Among the most common baby shower themes are those cute girly stuffs that make the mother feel even more feminine. Pink flowers and balloons and toys are common in this theme. Another theme that is common is that of cartoon characters and other baby stuffs. Most of the time, characters that we usually see in the children’s books and movies are brought about in the baby shower. What’s good about this is that everybody is given that feeling to experience being young again.
